Layout
Aids
We have recently added new technology to our line-up that allows us to easily place forestry layout points onto a digital or hard copy map (see image below). The typical way for forestry workers to layout boundary in the past has been to draw lines on a map, then calculate the bearings and distances manually. This process is prone to error, and the cummulative effect increases as the layout distance increases. Over very long distances this can create less than desirable results.
This process also creates a data file that lists the bearings and distances between each consecutive point. To view sample data (in Excel format) use this link. Under this file you will notice fields for bearing, distance and X,Y coordinates (GPS) which can be exported to any popular spreadsheet format. A field worker doing layout is now equipped with a georeferenced map (photomap if desired) portraying the layout, bearings and distances of all points, and the GPS coordinates of all waypoints. This degree of accuracy is particularly useful when laying out reserves adjacent to values and areas of limited development. The turnaround time for performing the traverse calculations and layout is very quick. All of the information is stored in a digital format which can be retrieved later at your convenience. With this technology, the possibility of inadvertedtly trespassing onto private property or into various forestry reserves can be substantially reduced or virtually eliminated. The possibility of errors and misinterpretation of layout paths will be minimized. For more information on this
system contact our office.
